“ Wieder auftrennen!”

My first crochet memory dates back to my early school days. It’s a phrase every girl in my class dreaded to hear - “Wieder auftrennen!” (German for '“open it up again”). Sometimes it felt like my teacher’s vocabulary was limited to those words. But at the end of the lesson most of us had created a pair of crochet pot-holders that we could proudly present to our parents.

Crochet soon became my favourite hobby. I moved on from pot-holders to doilies, to bags and accessories and then garments , making up a few designs along the way. But it wasn’t until 2020 that I released my first pattern - the Fleur Market Bag.

A lot of my designs start with a crochet texture or a stitch combination that I’m drawn to. Then I decide what type of garment or accessory might suit that particular stitch pattern and what items I’d want in my own wardrobe because they’re practical, useful, wearable & timeless.

And of course, by now I have come to appreciate my teacher’s favourite phrase as an important step to getting a design just right and something I can proudly present to other makers.
